[ygo gx] double gotcha!!
You knew this was coming. D:

I made an IRC channel for the RP. I know most of you already know how to get on, but here's for those of you who don't. I'm not sure yet whether we'll be RPing events on the channel yet, so thus far it's just for general chat. I'll take a poll later and see who'd be up for RPing in the channel.

Anyway, the channel in question is #pokeymanz on irc.darkmyst.org. (Yes, I'm a comedian. Love me.)

In order to get on the IRC channel, you either use the Java chat located here, or you download mIRC and connect via that.

Java Chat Instructions

The Java CGI program is pretty straightforward. Fill in the forms ("real name" is not required) with your handle that you want to use (no spaces or special characters) and the channel (which, in this case, is #pokeymanz). Click the Login button once you've done that, and it should connect you automatically, unless you have a firewall or some sort of other program blocking access to the Java chat.

mIRC Instructions

I find mIRC to be a better way to connect to the IRC room than the Java chat, so if you can't use the Java chat for some reason, download mIRC, install it, and then open it. The connection process is more manual than in the Java CGI script, so you'll need to follow a few steps.

1) Go to View > Options. Once the window pops up, fill in your name and an alternate nickname if your name is a common one.

2) Click the little red and yellow burst next to the "Connect To Server" button. This will take you to the IRC server options.

3) Click "Add" to add a server, and fill in the following details (any not listed should be left blank):

Description: Darkmyst
IRC Server: irc.darkmyst.org
Ports: 6667
Group: Darkmyst

Use the Group form if you want to add any channels to autojoin later on, once you're more used to the program.

4) That's all you need to do in the server options, so click "Add" and it'll add the server you entered to the list of preset servers. You can now click "Connect To Server" and if you did everything right, it'll connect you to the IRC network. See the below commands for how to join the channel.

Commands

IRC, unfortunately, can't read minds, so you'll have to type in commands in order to do stuff. Here's an explanation of the various commands on IRC:

/join #channel or /j #channel: Joins a channel. You'll need to type this once you connect if the channel you want isn't on autojoin. ex. /join #pokeymanz

/me: Sends an action to the channel instead of regular text. ex. /me waves

/nick: Changes your nickname from your current nickname to the requested nickname. ex. /nick Qu-ko

/ns: Stands for "NickServ", and handles the registration of your nickname. There are various commands it can perform, such as registration and help.

  • /ns register (password) (email): Registers your nickname so no one else can use it aside from you. However, keep in mind that if you do this, you'll have to identify every time you connect as seen below.

  • /ns identify (password): Identifies you to your nickname so you're allowed to use it without being kicked out of it.

/quit (message): Disconnects you from the IRC server, with an optional parting message.

And that should about cover it. If you have any questions about how to do something or are having trouble connecting, comment here and I'll help you out. :D

(Not friends locked because we welcome anyone into the channel, including audience, yayz!)
